No. 6 Syracuse women’s lacrosse dominated from the start in its season opener, securing a 21-9 victory over UAlbany at the JMA Wireless Dome on Friday afternoon.
The Orange jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, showcasing a deep and balanced offense with 11 different goal scorers.
Senior Olivia Adamson and graduate student Emma Ward led the charge, each notching three goals. Junior Emma Muchnick and freshman Mileena Cotter also contributed hat tricks, while Adamson added three assists for a team-high six points.
Freshman Alexa Vogelman opened the scoring just 36 seconds in, assisting on grad transfer Sam DeVito’s first goal in Orange shortly after. Syracuse built an 8-1 lead before UAlbany responded with three straight goals, but junior Gracie Britton ended the run. The Orange then rattled off 10 unanswered goals, holding the Great Danes scoreless for over 21 minutes.
Goalkeeper Daniella Guyette made her first career start, recording three saves and three ground balls. Meghan Rode controlled the draw with a career-high 11 draw controls, while Kaci Benoit anchored the defense with three caused turnovers.
Syracuse now turns its focus to a top-10 showdown at No. 7 Maryland on February 15 at 11 a.m.
