A Siena College poll revealed that 78% of New Yorkers support allowing grocery stores to sell wine, with bipartisan backing across demographics. This reflects a significant shift from 2023. After learning about incentives for promoting New York-made wines, support rose above 80%.
The “New York State of Wine” coalition has endorsed a bill reintroduced by State Sen. Liz Krueger and Assemblymember Pamela Hunter. The proposal would create a wine license for large grocery stores, encouraging local wine sales through fee discounts. Advocates argue this change would boost local businesses and jobs without harming liquor stores.
The bill, if passed and signed by Governor Hochul, would take effect immediately.
