One minute the weather is bitter blustery cold, the next it is rainy, and the roller coaster weather patterns of warm to cold and back to warm persist. The Seneca Meadows team is always ready to pivot and adjust to these changing conditions. Mindfulness is key to this agility navigating the up and downward swings. Windy conditions have been particularly part of the weather patterns this winter, and that creates challenges with flying debris or light equipment.
Mindful behaviors that we find helpful to stay safe:
- Continuously scan walking paths and driving paths for potential hazards.
- Be on high alert for black ice on driving and walking surfaces.
- Use 3 points of contact when climbing or descending.
- Use a light touch on acceleration and braking.
- Leave extra room for maneuvering and extra time for appointments.
- See and be seen.
- Secure equipment and supplies that could be disturbed by windy conditions.
A random nice weather day during winter months also has its share of potential hazards on the roadways in the Finger Lakes – agricultural equipment, horse and buggies, and pedestrians.
