Army helicopter warned before fatal collision with American Airlines flight

A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter was warned twice by air traffic control before colliding with American Airlines Flight 5342 over the Potomac River, killing all 67 onboard.

The tower informed the helicopter of the approaching plane and directed it to pass behind the aircraft. Despite the warnings, the plane tilted upward seconds before impact, according to investigators.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating if night vision goggles used by the helicopter crew played a role.

Families of the victims, including a grieving father who lost his wife and daughter, are mourning their loss as more details emerge.
