Syracuse’s road struggles continued Wednesday night as the Orange fell 70-61 to Stanford, suffering their third straight ACC loss. A disastrous start saw SU trailing 25-2 just eight minutes in, with the first six possessions resulting in missed shots or turnovers. The Orange’s sluggish offense allowed Stanford to build a 23-point first-half lead.
Despite the rough start, Syracuse (9-12, 3-7 ACC) showed life with a 20-4 run, cutting the deficit to single digits before halftime. Jaquan Carlos provided a spark off the bench, hitting multiple threes and earning a second-half start. Judah Mintz and J.J. Starling struggled, with Starling shooting just 3-of-16, but SU stayed within striking distance, trailing by eight with under eight minutes left.
Missed opportunities plagued the Orange late, as three empty possessions prevented them from closing the gap. Stanford sealed the win with a key offensive rebound and free throws in the final minute.
Carlos led Syracuse with 16 points on a season-high six made field goals. Eddie Lampkin Jr. ed the Orange with seven rebounds and added 12 points.
