A fatal crash in the Village of Rushville claimed the life of a Middlesex man Monday evening. Deputies from the Yates County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 22-year-old Austin M. Renfer, who was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 when it collided with a tree at the intersection of Main and Bassett streets.
Emergency crews, including the Rushville Fire Department and Middlesex Fire/Ambulance, responded to the scene shortly after the crash was reported at 6:08 p.m. Renfer was extricated from the heavily damaged vehicle but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the crash. Officials have not yet released further details about what may have led to the incident.
The Yates County Office of Emergency Services also assisted at the scene.
