Meta has denied allegations that its platforms, Instagram and Facebook, automatically forced users to follow the accounts of President Trump, Vice President Vance, or First Lady Melania Trump after Inauguration Day. Some users claimed they were unable to unfollow the accounts, but Meta spokesperson Andy Stone clarified that changes to official accounts during administration transitions follow established procedures.
Meta has faced additional criticism recently, including for issues affecting hashtag searches and its decision to end fact-checking programs. CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the changes, citing a shift toward free speech.
The company has also faced backlash for slashing its diversity programs and a $1 million donation to Trump’s inaugural fund.
