Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has introduced the Child Care Workforce & Facilities Act, proposing $100 million in federal funding over five years to address the nationwide shortage of affordable child care. Nearly two-thirds of New Yorkers lack adequate access, making the state one of the hardest hit in the country.
The legislation includes grants for workforce development and facility expansion, aiming to recruit, train, and retain child care workers. Funds could cover scholarships, training materials, and facility construction or renovation.
Gillibrand emphasized the bipartisan effort needed to make affordable child care accessible for working parents.
