Syracuse women’s basketball (7-12, 1-7 ACC) came up short in a tightly contested matchup against No. 20 NC State (15-4, 7-1 ACC), falling 74-66 on Thursday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Sophie Burrows led Syracuse with 16 points, marking her third consecutive game as the team’s top scorer. She added eight rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. Georgia Woolley and Kyra Wood also delivered double-digit performances with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Wood and Saniaa Wilson anchored the boards, each grabbing nine rebounds to pace the team.
Syracuse started strong, building a 24-15 first-quarter lead and extending the advantage to 10 points by halftime. NC State chipped away in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with an 8-0 run but couldn’t overtake Syracuse, which held a slim three-point edge heading into the final period. However, the Wolfpack surged late, taking the lead with just over three minutes left and sealing the win with an 11-0 run, including crucial free throws.
Next, the Orange travel to Clemson on Sunday, January 26, before returning home on February 2 to host Virginia.
