President Donald Trump signed an executive order rescinding security clearances for 51 former intelligence officials who questioned the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop in a 2020 letter.
The order also targeted former national security adviser John Bolton for alleged disclosure of sensitive information in his memoir.
The move, largely symbolic since many officials no longer hold active clearances, aligns with Trump’s efforts to punish those he deems political adversaries. Critics argue the action undermines First Amendment rights and targets private citizens.
The letter, once dismissed as Russian disinformation, has since been confirmed as baseless. Trump directed further investigation into intelligence community actions related to the laptop controversy.
