A Pew Research Center survey reveals that 26% of U.S. teens now use ChatGPT for schoolwork, double the 13% reported in 2023. Usage is higher among Black and Hispanic teens and older students, with 11th and 12th graders leading adoption at 31%.
Teens support using ChatGPT for research (54%), but far fewer find it acceptable for solving math problems (29%) or writing essays (18%). Awareness of the chatbot has also risen, with 79% of teens familiar with it compared to 67% last year, especially among higher-income households.
The study highlights growing acceptance of AI tools in education while underscoring continued debate over their appropriate use.
