  • Staff Report

An Onondaga County Justice Center inmate, Jeffrey Tillman, 37, has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing Deputy Erik Francis multiple times with a paring knife in a common area.

Tillman, awaiting sentencing for a prior stabbing, was subdued with pepper spray and a taser. Deputy David Passino, who intervened, was also injured.

Both deputies were hospitalized and are expected to recover. The facility underwent a lockdown for a contraband search and resumed normal operations.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating how Tillman obtained the knife. Tillman will be transferred to another Central New York jail.
