Authorities identified the driver as Christopher Dewitt, who allegedly ran a stop light before his mid-sized sedan veered into the oncoming lane on North Street at the Lansing Street intersection. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the woman, who was walking west across the street, police said.
Dewitt faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated on drugs. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues. The name of the victim has not been released.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office assisted Auburn Police at the scene. Police have asked anyone with information to contact Det. Atkins at 315-255-4703 or via email at [email protected].
