The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) announced that 1099-G tax forms for 2024 unemployment insurance (UI) benefits will be automatically mailed to recipients, simplifying the tax filing process for New Yorkers.
The 1099-G form, required for tax filing, outlines the total UI benefits received or repaid during the previous year, as well as any tax withholdings or adjustments. Recipients of UI benefits in 2024 must include this form when filing their taxes.
In past years, individuals had to request the form via phone. This year, as part of NYSDOL’s efforts to improve customer service, forms will arrive in mailboxes by the end of January. Additionally, recipients will be able to access their forms online starting mid-January.
“It’s no secret the tax filing process can be complicated,” said Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon. “The Department has automated the process of getting the necessary documents to anyone who has received unemployment benefits in the last year to make it as easy as possible for people to get their tax return and put money back in their pockets.”
For further assistance or to access the 1099-G forms online, New Yorkers can visit the NYSDOL website.
