Waterloo school board approves key policies

The Waterloo Board of Education approved several policies addressing voter registration, therapy animals, opioid overdose response, and support for married or pregnant students during its December meeting.

The voter registration policy encourages civic engagement by allowing preregistration for students aged 16 and older, with collaboration planned with the Seneca County Board of Elections. Policies for married or pregnant students ensure a discrimination-free environment with access to reasonable accommodations and comparable educational opportunities.

Additionally, the opioid overdose policy outlines procedures for administering Naloxone, while the therapy animal policy permits trained dogs and, in some cases, miniature horses to support students.
