The fate of Big Lots stores in Auburn and Williamson hangs in the balance following the retailer’s recent agreement with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners to keep select locations open and preserve jobs. However, it remains unclear if the Grant Avenue Plaza store in Sennett will be among those saved.
Gordon Brothers plans to transfer some Big Lots locations to other companies, with Variety Wholesalers expressing interest in operating between 200 and 400 stores under the Big Lots name. The agreement follows a failed earlier deal and looming closures across the retailer’s 963 locations.
Big Lots filed for bankruptcy in September, and store-specific decisions are still pending, leaving Auburn and Williamson communities in limbo.
