The Lansing Central School District is considering hiring a nurse for Lansing Middle School, but community members are advocating for four permanent nursing positions—one for each school and a flex nurse for additional support.
A community member, speaking as a concerned parent, argued that low pay and inadequate staffing have caused high nurse turnover. Superintendent Chris Pettograsso acknowledged regional hiring challenges but noted that posted salaries are often minimums and final pay depends on credentials and union negotiations.
Pettograsso mentioned potential interim solutions, such as contracting agency nurses, but emphasized that maintaining consistent in-house staff remains the district’s priority.
