Nestlé trials reusable packaging for KitKat and Lion treats in France

Nestlé has launched a six-month trial in Hauts-de-France, offering KitKat and Lion chocolate balls in reusable stainless steel containers made by Circolution and managed by recycling experts Bocoloco. Customers pay a €2 refundable deposit, with containers collected, cleaned, and refilled after use.

The initiative, supported by French startup Le Fourgon and nonprofit Citeo, aims to reduce single-use packaging waste. France’s plastic recycling rate remains low, underscoring the need for sustainable solutions.

Nestlé hopes the trial will gauge consumer interest and contribute to its goal of 100% reusable or recyclable packaging by 2025.
