A former inmate at Auburn Correctional Facility has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of assaulting two on-duty correction officers, Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced.
Windsor Coleman, 35, of Massapequa, was found guilty in July following a jury trial on two counts of second-degree assault, both classified as Class D violent felonies. Coleman refused to appear at his trial and was sentenced in absentia on December 20 by Judge Jon E. Budelmann.
Coleman received the maximum sentence of seven years determinate imprisonment for each assault charge, to run consecutively, totaling 14 years. He will also serve five years of post-release supervision following his sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amanda Raub and Special Counsel to the District Attorney Mark Moody.
District Attorney Antonacci emphasized the importance of holding individuals accountable for acts of violence against correctional staff and praised the prosecution team for securing the conviction.
