Ontario woman charged with forgery, larceny in food voucher scheme

An Ontario woman faces charges of petit larceny and first-degree possession of a forged instrument after allegedly altering food vouchers to gain unauthorized benefits, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Kiara Bass, 33, was arrested following an investigation conducted in coordination with the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Authorities allege Bass altered the effective date range on emergency food vouchers she received, allowing her to use them a second time improperly.

The altered vouchers were reportedly used at a Save A Lot store in Ontario, where Bass obtained $48.48 worth of goods she was not entitled to under the program’s guidelines.

Bass was held at the Wayne County Jail pending CAP arraignment.
