Cayuga Co. Office Building to remain closed for two years: Temp space owned by former legislator

  • Staff Report

Cayuga County will pay $348,000 annually to lease 63 Genesee St. in Auburn while the county office building remains closed for two years, according to reporting Friday by The Citizen. The building, owned by former legislator Grant Kyle, will temporarily house several displaced departments.

The county will pay $29,005 monthly and invest $1.1 million to prepare the space. Despite initial concerns about the building’s layout and parking, officials approved the lease after evaluating alternatives and confirming no conflicts of interest.

The closure of the office building, prompted by asbestos contamination, forced the relocation. The Department of Social Services and other agencies are expected to move in once renovations are complete.
