A priest formerly assigned in Cortland County has pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. Nathan Brooks, 37, entered the plea and received probation supervision in Homer Town Court on December 17.

Brooks admitted to sending inappropriate texts to a minor in 2020 and 2021. Despite allegations of forcible touching, jurisdiction issues prevented further prosecution. The plea deal includes counseling and a protective order, satisfying the victim’s family.

Cortland County DA Patrick Perfetti criticized the Syracuse Diocese’s handling of the case, citing delayed reporting and lack of cooperation.
