Greenidge Generation has requested a delay in a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) hearing to appeal a recent ruling by Judge Vincent Dinolfo. The ruling upheld the DEC’s authority to deny air permits under the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) due to environmental inconsistencies in Greenidge’s natural gas-powered crypto-mining plant operations.
The plant, located on Seneca Lake’s west shore, continues to operate while legal proceedings unfold. Environmental groups, including Earthjustice and the Sierra Club, have accused Greenidge of using legal tactics to prolong operations despite repeated permit denials.
Opponents argue the facility contributes excessive carbon emissions and environmental harm while benefiting only a select few financially. They call for immediate enforcement of environmental regulations to prevent further damage.
