New York declares flu widespread, cases surge statewide

The New York Health Department announced the flu is now widespread, with 23,313 cases reported across 60 counties as of Dec. 14.

New York City saw a 72% increase, while cases in the rest of the state jumped 75%. Hospitalizations due to the flu rose by 48%.


Unvaccinated healthcare workers are now required to wear masks in state-regulated facilities.

Health officials urge everyone six months and older to get the flu shot, emphasizing it’s not too late for protection during the holidays.
