Starting pitcher Griffin Canning and the New York Mets reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $4.25 million, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday night.
The deal includes up to $1 million in performance-based incentives.
Canning, 28, entered free agency after being non-tendered by the Atlanta Braves earlier this offseason. The Braves had acquired him from the Los Angeles Angels in a trade involving outfielder Jorge Soler.
In 2024, the right-hander posted a 5.19 ERA over 171.2 innings with the Angels, leading the league in earned runs allowed with 99. Canning owns a 4.78 ERA across 508.0 big-league innings.
Canning will likely compete with Tylor Megill for the final spot in the Mets rotation.
