SAFETY MOMENT: Staying safe on the roads in winter

This time of year, our morning safety huddles often focus on weather-related safety behaviors—especially when operating equipment and vehicles. While many of these are work-specific, the following tips apply anywhere:

  • Take a few moments to adjust to current light conditions.
  • Clear snow and ice from your vehicle to avoid creating hazards for others.
  • Be aware of black ice, especially during freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Leave extra room when following other vehicles.
  • Use soft touches on acceleration and braking.
  • Brake early.
  • Leave extra room for maneuvering.

The most important safety behavior is to always slow down. Posted speed limits don’t apply under inclement road conditions.

Let’s all commit to these practices to ensure everyone gets home safe
