The Ontario County Board of Supervisors will vote tonight on whether to close the county landfill at the end of 2028. The proposal, backed by the Planning & Environmental Quality Committee in a narrow vote last month, would end landfill operations in Seneca when its lease with Casella Waste Services and state permit expire, coinciding with its capacity limit.
While the landfill generates significant county revenue and eliminated Seneca’s tax levy, the town board unanimously recommended the closure in 2023.
Supervisors will also consider advancing waste-reduction and diversion efforts, alongside resolutions to reappoint two department directors and approve a union agreement. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at 74 Ontario St.
