The Village of Dresden has determined that its proposed water main replacement project will not result in significant environmental impacts, clearing the way for extensive upgrades to the aging system.
The project aims to replace the village’s deteriorating transmission mains and distribution piping, which have outlived their useful life and caused frequent water main breaks. These breaks disrupt the flow of potable water, create unsafe drinking conditions, and place financial and operational strains on the village’s modest Public Works Department.
As part of the plan, the Village of Dresden will replace outdated asbestos cement (AC) piping with durable ductile iron (DIP) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water mains. The new pipes, with a minimum diameter of 8 inches, will enhance fire flow capacity. Additionally, the village will upgrade valves and fire hydrants to reduce system failures and emergency repairs.
To improve water distribution efficiency, the amended plan includes creating water main loops to eliminate dead ends, supporting consistent flow and reducing system aging.
