Kyle McCord’s career day led to history as the Syracuse football team picked up a 31-24 victory over Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome.
The Orange improved to 8-3 on the season, 5-1 at home, and 7-6 against the Huskies all-time.
McCord threw for a career-high 470 yards and two touchdowns while adding another on the ground. With 3,946 passing yards this season, McCord became Syracuse’s record holder for passing yards in a single season, surpassing Ryan Nassib’s 3,749 yards in the 2012 season.
Three Cuse receivers finished with over 100 yards. Darrell Gill Jr. led the way with nine catches for a career-high 177 yards. Jackson Meeks had seven receptions for 110 yards, while Oronde Gadsen II caught 11 passes for 103 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown. Trebor Pena found the end zone before leaving with an injury. LeQuint Allen had 20 carries for 59 yards and a score.
Syracuse outgained UConn in total yards (538-352), passing yards (470-228), first downs (25-16), and time of possession (37:36-22:24).
