Dano’s Heuriger, a Finger Lakes staple known for its Austrian “wine tavern” cuisine, will close its doors on Dec. 1 after nearly two decades in Lodi.
The restaurant’s scenic spot on Seneca Lake will soon become a tasting room for Silver Thread Winery, set to open in early 2025.
Founded by the late chef Dano Hutnik and Karen Gilman, Dano’s introduced the U.S. to Vienna-style “heuriger” dining in 2005, blending family-style plates with wine pairings.
Gilman, who has run the restaurant since Hutnik’s passing in 2018, plans to retire and pursue painting, but will help Silver Thread owners Shannon and Paul Brock with the transition.
With the move, Silver Thread gains a more prominent location, transitioning its current tasting room to host private events.
