The Seneca Summer Music Festival Orchestra will perform a free outdoor concert Aug. 1 at Boundary Breaks Vineyard in Lodi to support downtown Ovid redevelopment.
The concert begins at 7 in the evening at the winery, 1568 Porter Covert Road, with donations benefiting the Ovid Local Development Corporation and its redevelopment work following the 2025 fire.
South Seneca High School graduate S. Shade Zajac, music director of the Genesee Symphony Orchestra, assembled the orchestra from Finger Lakes and Rochester-area musicians. Zajac has brought the group together for previous classical concerts in the region.
The program will feature patriotic pops and light classical selections marking the nation's 250th anniversary. It also will include the world premieres of "Some Small Hope" by Laurence Tallman and Zajac's "Self Evident Truths."
Concertgoers should bring lawn chairs. The Cousins Maine Lobster food truck will be on site, and Boundary Breaks wines will be available for purchase.
Major funding is being provided by Christ Episcopal Church in Willard as part of its Lake Country Hometown Music Series, which is supported by a grant from the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation.
Zajac is a 2011 South Seneca Central School graduate and earned a degree in music performance, cello, conducting and composition from Nazareth College in 2015. He also serves as principal conductor and music director of the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra and Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra.
