Hochul and James pledge to protect New Yorkers’ rights post-election

In the wake of the 2024 General Election, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James addressed New Yorkers on Wednesday, congratulating the winners and outlining plans to protect state rights under the incoming administration.

Hochul emphasized her commitment to working with federal partners but vowed to resist any Washington agenda that could threaten longstanding American rights.

Hochul announced the Empire State Freedom Initiative, aimed at safeguarding areas potentially impacted by federal changes, including reproductive rights, immigration, gun safety, labor, LGBTQ rights, and environmental justice.

James echoed the governor’s sentiments, assuring that her office is prepared to defend these protections using the rule of law.
