Auburn IDA to discuss Bo-Mer project incentives and 2025 budget

Auburn’s IDA board will hold a meeting on Wednesday to review several issues, including the potential approval of a key project that could further boost local manufacturing. The Auburn Industrial Development Authority will meet at 5 p.m. at City Hall to conduct a public hearing and discuss the Bo-Mer project, a proposed renovation of the building at 21 Allen Street in the Auburn Technology Park.

Bo-Mer, a local manufacturer, plans to expand its EarthPlanter product line, which has seen rapid growth. The project involves acquiring and upgrading a 33,000-square-foot facility, with an estimated cost of $3 million. The company’s proposed improvements include major infrastructure upgrades, such as installing HVAC, electrical, and sprinkler systems. The expansion is expected to create nine full-time jobs over the next three years.

During the meeting, the board will consider a resolution that could grant Bo-Mer a range of financial incentives, including property tax abatements and sales tax exemptions. According to the meeting agenda, Bo-Mer seeks these benefits to complete the renovations in one phase, rather than delaying work as funds become available. Without the incentives, the project would likely take several years to finish.

In addition to the Bo-Mer project, the board will vote on adopting the 2025 budget and review updates on the status of PILOT invoicing. Members will also revisit the Camoin Report, which outlines strategies for fostering economic growth in Cayuga County. This report is a critical part of AIDA’s efforts to clarify its role in the region’s broader economic development framework.

The public meeting, which will be streamed online for remote viewing, will conclude with updates from board members and a brief discussion on new business, including late fees and marketing efforts. The next board meeting is scheduled for November 20.
