Danby Fire Company to test emergency siren at noon

The Danby Volunteer Fire Company will conduct a siren test around noon today.

The siren, located atop the fire station, is used to alert volunteers of structure fires. The company explained that although many firehouses still use these alarms, their purpose is often unclear to the public.

“If you hear the siren, there’s usually no need to call 911,” the company said, emphasizing that responders are also notified by other means. The siren remains a vital backup in case modern communication systems fail. The fire station is located at 1780 Danby Road, south of Ithaca.
