What led to hours-long standoff in Wayne County yesterday? Geneva woman also taken into custody after incident

A parolee’s alleged threats turned a routine arrest into a prolonged standoff Thursday in Butler, resulting in his surrender and the arrest of his girlfriend on an outstanding warrant.

The incident began around 9:30 a.m. on Wolcott Spring Lake Road when state parole officers arrived at the home of Michael Wade, 42, to execute an arrest warrant. According to Wayne County Sheriff Robert Milby, Wade allegedly threatened the officers, prompting them to call for backup.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office established a perimeter around the residence as negotiations unfolded. After several hours, Wade surrendered peacefully. No injuries were reported during the standoff.

New information from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office indicates that deputies assisting at the scene identified a woman inside the residence as Jamie Thompson, 30, of Geneva. When Thompson exited the home, deputies discovered she had an active warrant for her arrest out of the Town of Hopewell in Ontario County.

Thompson was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant and transported to the Ontario County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hopewell Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Charges against Wade are pending, and authorities have not disclosed further details about the nature of the arrest warrant or the specific threats made during the incident.
