Ontario County is set to conduct its biennial study of the materials taken to its landfill in the town of Seneca. Proposals for this year’s waste characterization report are due to the county’s Department of Sustainability and Solid Waste Management by Sept. 27.
The study will analyze the composition of local waste, helping the county target education and recycling efforts. A consultant will sort and weigh various materials, including recyclables, organics, and construction debris.
The 2022 study revealed that organic food waste was the largest component of the county’s waste stream, with paper products coming in second.
