Tropical Storm Debby, which unleashed heavy rain on Geneva, has left the city with an estimated $500,000 in damages. City Manager Amie Hendrix reported that the Aug. 9 storm overwhelmed storm systems, leading to widespread flooding and infrastructure damage.
City crews responded to over 60 emergency calls as the storm damaged Marsh Creek culverts, City Hall, and the South Plant Pump Station. The costs include repairs, emergency labor, and debris removal but exclude private property damages and future mitigation efforts.
Officials emphasized that Geneva is working with federal and state agencies to secure funding and address ongoing flooding issues exacerbated by increasingly frequent extreme weather events.
