A 26-year-old Geneva man was arrested early Sunday morning after a motor vehicle accident on Exchange Street at Lewis Street left a pedestrian with significant injuries. The Geneva Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 2:20 a.m. on August 25.
Upon arrival, officers found a 48-year-old male pedestrian lying on the ground with serious injuries. The driver of the vehicle, Zachary Tyler Doerr, was identified at the scene. After conducting a preliminary investigation, officers suspected that Doerr was intoxicated. He failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and was subsequently arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
Doerr was transported to the Geneva Police Department, where his Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was measured at .17%, more than twice the legal limit. He faces multiple charges, including Driving While Intoxicated – 1st Offense (a class A misdemeanor), Driving While Intoxicated – Common Law (a class A misdemeanor), Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree (a class E felony), Open Container in a Motor Vehicle (a violation), and Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent (a violation).
The injured pedestrian was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he is reported to be in guarded condition. The Geneva Fire Department assisted at the scene. Zachary Doerr was processed and issued an appearance ticket to return to the City of Geneva Criminal Court at a later date.
