A collision at the intersection of State Route 13 and Lime Hollow Road in Cortlandville on August 23, 2024, left two people injured and caused a fuel spill that required environmental cleanup.
According to a preliminary investigation by New York State Police, the crash occurred around 1:21 p.m. when a Ford F350 with a gooseneck trailer, driven by Elvin Muzaffarov, 27, of Staten Island, failed to stop at a red light and collided with a Chevrolet Trail Blazer making a left turn onto Lime Hollow Road. The impact caused the F350 to overturn, spilling approximately four gallons of fuel onto the grass.
The driver of the Trail Blazer, Jacqueline S. Carroll, 67, of Groton, was transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical Center, while a 62-year-old male passenger from Ithaca was taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. Muzaffarov was assessed on scene by EMS but did not require hospitalization.
The Cortlandville Fire Department, TLC, National Grid, and the Department of Environmental Conservation also responded to the scene. The DEC was notified to manage the fuel spill. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
