Jasper-Troupsburg High School is once again grappling with severe flooding, this time from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, just three years after a similar disaster struck. The school district updated the community on Sunday, detailing ongoing cleanup efforts and future plans, which hinge on federal disaster declarations.
The district emphasized that cleaning and sanitizing the building is essential to prevent toxic contamination, especially if demolition becomes necessary.
School officials are awaiting a decision from FEMA on whether to proceed with current mitigation plans, which may involve partial demolition and reconstruction, or consider relocating the school entirely.
Meetings with FEMA and Homeland Security are set for Monday to determine the next steps.
