Hundreds mourn 13-year-old Nyah Mway at vigil

Hundreds gathered on Shaw Street for a candlelight vigil to honor 13-year-old Nyah Mway, who was shot and killed by police.

Community members, including speaker Kay Klo, director of Midtown Utica Community Center, expressed their grief and called for justice. “We gather here to honor and support our little brother, Nyah Mway,” Klo said. Nyah’s family, who fled military and police violence in their homeland, feel betrayed by the incident.

As the community demands accountability, Pastor Debbie Kelsey of Tabernacle Baptist Church reminded the crowd of Nyah’s life and love. She urged everyone to be a light for truth and justice. The investigation into the shooting continues.
