Destiny USA Increases Security to Combat Shoplifting

  • Staff Report

Destiny USA is stepping up security measures and prosecuting shoplifters more aggressively, officials announced at a June 20 press conference.

Authorities reported a “significant reduction” in crime at the mall since last fall. A Property Crimes Task Force, with officers on bikes and on foot, has led to a 50% decrease in calls and 283 arrests, 72 of which resulted in felony charges.

District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick highlighted the Serial Theft Offender Program (STOP) to combat retail theft. He warned that repeated offenders could face burglary charges if they return to the mall.
