Off-duty Hornell police officer Trevor Stiles was honored for his swift actions at a deadly crash scene last month. Stiles, traveling near Auburn, witnessed a four-car collision and immediately jumped in to help.
The crash occurred on May 10 when a tractor-trailer hit an SUV, causing a chain reaction with two other cars. Stiles was the first officer on the scene. He accessed the SUV through its sunroof to assist the unresponsive driver, who was later pronounced dead. He also helped another driver escape her car safely.
Stiles and four other Hornell officers received the Life Saving Award for their bravery. “Officer Stiles’ quick thinking and selflessness made a difference,” said Mayor John Buckley.
