Mosaic Health will close dental office in Lyons, organization says

Mosaic Health announced it will close its dental offices in Lyons and Mt. Morris due to funding changes and a national shortage of dentists. The offices will remain open for up to 90 days, depending on staff availability and regulatory processes.

“We are disappointed to close these offices,” said Michael Leary, President & CEO of Mosaic Health. “Patients in the middle of treatment can continue their care at our Rushville or Utica Dental locations once the closures are complete.”

The closures are part of a response to a $4 million reduction in grant revenue, following the end of a 37-year relationship with Rochester Regional Health. This cut represents about 30% of Mosaic’s annual operating budget. Despite efforts to recruit more dentists, the challenge of attracting dental professionals to rural areas remains significant.

Mosaic’s locations in Rushville, Utica, Utica Dental, and Ilion will stay open, and a new Mobile Unit will be available pending state approval. The School-Based Health Center at Marcus Whitman is set to open in June 2024.
