Richard Nielens Jr., former supervisor of the town of Mentz, admitted in Cayuga County Court on Thursday to sending a sexual video to a minor. Nielens, 66, pleaded guilty to first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, a class D felony.

Nielens acknowledged sending a video depicting sexual conduct to a child younger than 16 in December 2023. He was arrested later that month. Judge Thomas Leone will sentence Nielens on August 15 to two years in state prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. This sentence also covers a charge of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Nielens served on the Mentz Town Board for 12 years before becoming supervisor from 2016 to 2021. He lost re-election bids in 2021 and 2023.
