The Madison County Sheriff’s Office determined that claims of a woman being abducted near Chittenango Falls on Wednesday were unfounded. Deputies responded to a 911 call at around 10:40 a.m., reporting a possible abduction, according to a spokesperson for the office.
Upon arrival, the woman and the alleged male suspects had already left the scene. A large number of officers were deployed to search for the woman, leading to the closure of a 13-mile stretch of Route 13 between Chittenango and Cazenovia for over four hours. The road has since reopened.
The woman and the suspects were eventually located, and the investigation concluded that the abduction claim was false. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the State Police, Environmental Conservation police, State Park police, Chittenango and Cazenovia police, CAVAC, and the Madison County Office of Emergency Management.
