Auburn firefighters rescue ducks down storm drain, as mother duck watches over (photos)

On Friday, the Auburn Police Department’s Truck Company responded to a distress call from a “mother duck.” Eight of her ducklings had fallen through a storm sewer grate, requiring immediate rescue.

The ducklings were initially uncooperative, but the crew carefully extricated them. During the rescue, officers kept the mother duck calm and explained the dangers of being near the road.

Once all the ducklings were safely removed, the family was relocated to a grassy area along the Owasco River, ensuring their safety and well-being.
