Three Cayuga County villages have embarked on a months-long planning process to determine the allocation of a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant.

Representatives from Aurora, Cayuga, and Union Springs attended the first local planning committee meeting on Monday at the Union Springs Fire Department, joined by consultants from C&S Companies and New York Department of State officials.

The 19-member committee, co-chaired by Cayuga County Legislature Chairwoman Aileen McNabb-Coleman, Aurora Mayor Jim Orman, Cayuga Mayor Don Wilson Jr., and Union Springs Mayor Rob Thurston Jr., will collect community feedback and project submissions over the next six months.

The committee will then decide which projects receive funding.

The strategic investment plan is expected to be finalized by year-end, with state funding announcements in early 2025, which all comes at a crucial moment given the recent closure announcement of Wells College.
