State Senator Pam Helming welcomed Mary Ferris to the State Capitol on May 7th to honor her 50 years of service as Children’s Librarian at Canandaigua’s Wood Library. The New York State Senate passed a Resolution recognizing Ferris’s dedication and contributions to the community.
Senator Helming praised Ferris, saying, “Over a half century, just imagine the thousands of lives Mrs. Ferris has touched – with a good book, a kind word, a gentle hug – and of course, that magical flannel board.” Ferris was also acknowledged for her 50-year membership in the New York Library Association and her role as a founding member and longtime chair of the Community Reading Partnership.
Ferris was joined in Albany by her husband, Kim, and colleagues from Wood Library, including Executive Director Jenny Goodemote, Executive Assistant Cyndi Fordham, Adult Services Librarian Alexis Lawrence, Volunteer Coordinator Stephanie Toomey, and Circulation Supervisor Carrie Magnan.
