After more than 90 years of shielding the community from lake waves, the L-shaped breakwater has shown signs of severe wear, including holes large enough for a person to swim through. The restoration project, fueled by local advocacy and federal funding, aims to preserve the breakwater’s protective role and support for boating activities.

Senator Chuck Schumer announced that $20 million in federal funding has been secured for the project, set to commence in August and extend into the next summer.

Despite the extensive renovations, the bay and breakwater will remain accessible, with improvements focusing on safety and stability. The community has welcomed the news with residents happy to see the infrastructure investment.
